On behalf of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ Board of Directors, I’m happy to announce that Peggy Nash will be the CCPA’s new executive director.

Nash is a highly accomplished and widely respected leader in Canada’s progressive movement. She understands the historic significance of the Trumpian moment we’re in and is highly qualified to lead the CCPA through these turbulent times.

Peggy has expertise in policy-making and understands the political landscape that informs the work of the CCPA. As the first labour woman to lead auto negotiations in the Canadian Auto Workers union (now Unifor), a former member of parliament, an author and lecturer, Nash is uniquely placed to guide the CCPA during these unprecedented economic times. Under her leadership, the CCPA will continue to provide independent, non-partisan, progressive policy and economic analysis—including policy solutions to address the multiple challenges Canada currently faces.

As the CCPA continues its real-time expert analysis of Trump’s tariff war, Nash is well-positioned to lead: before becoming a parliamentarian, she was a labour official at the Canadian Auto Workers Union (now Unifor). Nash understands what’s on the line of Canada’s auto sector—and the tariffs potentially catastrophic impact on jobs and the economy. She is a leader for our times.

Nash will be working out of the CCPA’s Toronto office. Please join me in welcoming Peggy Nash to the CCPA!

Chair, Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives board
