Employment Growth in the New Saskatchewan
Is the Wall government playing a shell game with provincial employment numbers? The government regularly issues press releases – repeated by the media – claiming record job creation. However, how well does the Wall government stack up against the historical job creation record of other Saskatchewan governments?
In this policy brief, economist Erin Weir examines the Wall government’s record on employment in relation to both the Lorne Calvert and Allan Blakeney premierships – governments that experienced comparative resource commodity booms. Weir demonstrates that despite the current government’s boasts about growing employment, both the Calvert and Blakeney governments outpaced the Wall government in employment growth during their respective administrations.
