The Transformation of Saskatchewan
CCPA-Saskatchewan Director Simon Enoch argues Canadian progressives need to “get to know Brad” in this special feature on how Premier Wall continues to transform the province and its politics. In office since 2007, the Wall government just won its third election and is riding high in public opinion polls, despite the recent economic downturn. In the province that gave Canada public health care and pioneered the co-operative movement, the Saskatchewan Party has strengthened employers and undermed labour, is testing out new private funding options for social services, barely regulates its unconventional oil and gas sector, and is acting as a spoiler in the way of important new national programs such as CPP expansion and a carbon tax. Wall may appear to be a relic on issues like climate change, but his policies, and the way he delivers them, have appeal outside the prairies, and may be coming to a province near you.
