Canada ranks poorly on taxing polluters

Today the OECD released a report on environmental taxes and found Canada ranks 29th out of 33 OECD member countries when it comes to taxing polluters. Canada's tax on environmental ills amounts to slightly more than 1% of GDP while countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark top 4% of GDP.
The Alternative Federal Budget has long advocated for more green taxation to both raise revenue and make Canada a greener country. OCED secretary-general Angel Gurria says "shifting part of the tax burden onto pollution makes it more attractive to develop and adopt clean technologies and promotes green growth.
