Dangerous Distractions: Canada’s carbon emissions and the pathway to net zero

Net zero is an increasingly popular term used  by governments and industry as a target for managing our emissions and meeting the urgency of the climate emergency. It may also be a dangerous distraction for Canadian policy-makers, who already have a terrible track record at meeting such targets.

This report argues that rather than focusing wishful thinking on future technologies and nature-based solutions for reducing emissions, the government of Canada needs to commit to a managed wind down of fossil fuel production and produce detailed plans about what it means by net zero.
