Time to review education funding formula

Pressure is mounting on the province to fix the way it funds education in Ontario. Chronic underfunding of the school system has led to a renewed call from Toronto District School Board Trustee Chris Glover for the province to correct the funding formula implemented during the Mike Harris era. In a June 13, 2013 Toronto Star oped, Glover cited CCPA-Ontario data from Hugh Mackenzie: "The economist Hugh Mackenzie calculates that between 1998 and 2009, when you tally the additional costs to schools of inflation and provincial actions such as the class cap, provincially negotiated pay increases, and literacy and numeracy initiatives, net funding is down across the province by $450 per student per year."
