Virtual book launch: “Canada and Great Power Competition: Canada Among Nations 2021”

On September 26, 2022, iAffairs Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and the Institute of Political Economy, hosted a virtual book launch discussing the contributions of the latest volume of Canada Among Nations (2021).

“Canada and Great Power Competition: Canada Among Nations 2021” is a new collection from Palgrave Macmillan, edited by David Carment, Laura Macdonald and Jeremy Paltiel, on the challenges for Canadian foreign, economic and trade policy in 2022.

Beset by a pandemic, hemmed-in by an America-first administration in Washington and punitive recrimination from a Chinese government with global ambitions, the shrinking horizons of a foreign economic policy premised on liberal internationalism and multilateral institutionalism have sapped Canada’s global ambitions.

During this first of several book launches, co-editor Laura Macdonald of Carleton University moderates a discussion with chapter authors on the trade challenges facing Canada and how the government has or has not met them so far.

The panel featured key contributors to this years Canada Among Nations volume. They included Stephen McBride, Elizabeth Smythe, and Stuart Trew.
