With two unions and a conservation organization, we have asked [2] the Competition Bureau of Canada to formally investigate UK energy giant Drax’s monopoly of BC’s wood pellet industry. Drax is using its monopoly position to substantially lessen competition in the market for the raw materials required to make wood pellets, says the request.
“This reduction in competition will have negative consequences for both forest ecosystems and forest industry employment in the province, which are of great concern to our respective organizations and to many British Columbians,” the organizations say in a letter.
