About Making Women Count

Canada has one of the highest levels of well-being in the world. But the distribution of that well-being is not equal. Making Women Count examines the difference that gender inequality makes—to the economy, to politics, and to well-being in Canada.

Closing the gender gap in Canada would provide a significant engine for long-term economic growth, as well as an immediate increase in the social and economic status of women and girls in Canada. Yet Canada’s progress on ensuring that men and women have equal pay, equal access to secure work, equal benefit from government programs and policies, and equal representation has flat-lined in the past two decades.

Making Women Count measures the size of Canada’s gender gap, examines the barriers to closing that gap, and offers solutions tailor made to fit women in Canada.
