The CCPA has calculated the rental wage—the hourly wage needed to rent an average two-bedroom apartment (the most common type) without spending more than 30% of one’s earnings.

This interactive map allows users to explore housing rental affordability in comparison to minimum wage earnings nationally, in the provinces, in cities and in 795 neighbourhoods. In almost all of them, a minimum wage worker can’t afford an apartment.

To get started, click on a province to filter to the cities within it. Click on a city to jump to its neighbourhoods map. Hover over anything for additional information. To reset the map, reload the page. The map may take time to load. Please be patient.
